Although the gorgeous Australian's star rose quickly in Hollywood by landing a role as the pregnant plane crash survivor Claire on "Lost" (ABC, 2004 - ) after playing only two other roles in the United States, the path of the beautiful blonde Aussie starlet was one of careful study.
The Melbourne native began studying ballet at the age of nine and was accepted to the prestigious Australian Ballet School at 15. She performed with the Australian Ballet Company and with Danceworld 301. Born in December 1981, de Ravin studied acting at the National Institute of Dramatic Art in Australia and the Prime Time Actors Studio in Los Angeles. Her first TV role was on the international series "Beastmaster: The Legend Continues" (Alliance Atlantis and Tribune Entertainment) as Curupira, Guardian of all Game Animals, which was shot in Australia for US television...click here fro the rest...

The beautiful blonde with the light blue eyes first grabbed our attention as an alien in the âRoswellâ TV series a few years ago. Now Emilie De Ravin, a pretty product of Australia, plays Claire on the hit show âLostâ. During her break from that series, Emilie flew from tropical Hawaii to the arid Morocco desert to play a tortured young vacationer in the big screen re-make of the Wes Craven horrorfest The Hills Have Eyes.

Looking casual in dark blue crepe blouse, white cardigan, jeans and slides, the actress joined us in Beverly Hills to chat about the grueling shoot in the desert, playing Brenda, a high school senior who had way rather be in Cancun with her best buds that vacationing in a Winnebago with a family destined to be attacked by cannibals!... click here for the rest...

Lost" star Emilie de Ravin plays the rebellious daughter who's only reluctantly along for her family's vacation in the 2006 remake of Wes Craven's "The Hills Have Eyes." The new version of Craven's classic horror film follows the same basic storyline as the original and pits an ordinary American family against a group of mutant cannibals.
Emilie de Ravin Explains Her Attraction to âThe Hills Have Eyes:â
âIt really intrigued me because basically this was written back in the day, maybe â72 I think he wrote it⊠It was released in â77. Wes wrote this film after hearing about this story. I guess he was inspired by this true tale of these Scottish people, the Sawney Beane family, who ambushed travelers.
Basically itâs the same thing when they come into his village where it was quite isolated and killed them in sort of, I guess, unspeakable ways...click here for the rest...

Were the mutant men of The Hills Have Eyes gentle with Emilie De Ravin?:
âThey were actually really, really nice people. Michael and Robert were so sweet. I mean, they still are. Theyâre really nice so it was kind of weird because theyâre so mean and so disturbing. I mean, Michaelâs like three times my size so if you squeeze your wrist too hard, he almost broke my fingers.â
Was the Morocco set of Hills Have Eyes as nice as Lost's Hawaii set?: âA little less comfortable in the desert. Iâm not used to the desert. I havenât really spent that much time until then. So you have to climatize and adapt to the heat which the first few days I thought, âI canât do this. Itâs so insanely hot.â The middle of summer in the middle of the desert over there, it was sweltering hot. But you get used to it. You kind of donât think about it after a while. Iâm glad that happened.â...click here for the rest...

WHAT'S CLAIRE FROM LOST DOING IN THE HILLS HAVE EYES?
EMILIE de Ravin seems fragile, almost waif-like. At 5ft 2in the 24-year-old Australian has that same gamin quality of Audrey Hepburn or Leslie Caron. Like them, de Ravin was also a ballet dancer.
In The Hills Have Eyes, a chiller based on the Wes Craven classic, de Ravin plays a precocious teenager named Brenda who is angry that she's on a road trip with her family across the desert. After their car and trailer are damaged in a crash, they are stranded in the desert, then confronted by a group of cannibalistic mutants.
"I love well-done horror films," de Ravin says. "There are a lot of horror films I dislike because I find they forget about the story and just go for the scare factor."
Director Alexandre Aja found it difficult to find an actress who could play such an "extreme" part. "She looks so tiny that you don't believe she has this inner strength. For a film-maker, it's amazing that you can really play with that cliché of being fragile and at the end you reveal her strength."
De Ravin can also be seen soon in the Sundance Award-winning indie film noir Brick, playing another teenager, whose murder sets her ex-boyfriend off on a search for her killers. Director Rian Johnson needed an actress who could make a lasting impression in her few short scenes. She persuaded him. "When you meet her she's so tiny and feminine," he says, "but she's such a strong person, it shines through."
De Ravin, who landed a role as a teenager in the series Beastmaster, filmed in Australia, moved to LA at 18 after being cast as an alien in the short-lived show Roswell.
Lost is filmed in Hawaii, but de Ravin prefers to fly back to Los Angeles to be with her fiancé, actor Josh Janowicz, and her teacup poodle, Bella. In the Emmy Award-winning series, de Ravin plays Claire, an Australian woman who gives birth to a son shortly after the jetliner on which she was a passenger crashes on a mysterious island.
Before delivering her baby, Claire was kidnapped. In the show's second season, viewers learn what happened to her when she was taken away from the rest of the survivors. "It was quite a creepy episode," she says. "It was great."
Despite her age, de Ravin doesn't mind being cast as a teenager. "It's fun playing Claire, who is quite mature for her age," she says. "But it's fun going back and drawing from memory the things you would do and wouldn't do [as a teen]."

Look at this:
Our top showbiz earners
In the money ... Nicole Kidman, Keith Urban, AC/DC and The Wiggles.
The celebrity couple made almost the same amount of money last year and, with a combined worth of $42.3 million, are the top male and female earners in Australia's entertainment business.
The pair were named, behind children's group The Wiggles and aged rockers AC/DC, in BRW magazine's list of Australia's 50 richest performers in 2005.
The magazine calculated Kidman's 2005 earnings to be $22.3 million, in front of Urban's $20 million, tying him equal fourth with Hugh Jackman.
The actor and the country music singer are rumoured to be engaged.
"Keith is absolutely the big mover," said BRW's James Thomson, who compiled the list.
"He was at $4.7 million last year, jumping to $20 million. It just goes to show how important success in the United States is."
The Wiggles topped the list, with earnings of $50 million, up from $45 million the previous year.
And then came AC/DC, who haven't released an album since 2000, with $25 million, boosted by the release of their Family Jewels DVD.
"This is our estimates of gross earnings for 2005," said Thomson.
"We look at things like news reports, concert takings, album sales, box office and budgets to try and gauge the going rate for people."
Kylie Minogue ranked sixth on the list, followed by Cate Blanchett, children's group Hi-5, and actors Eric Bana, Naomi Watts and Geoffrey Rush.
Russell Crowe dropped dramatically, ranking 18th on the list this year with $5 million in earnings. That compared to last year's earnings of $27 million.
Crowe made one film last year, Ridley Scott's A Good Year, and has focused on his music, with band The Ordinary Fear of God.
"His earnings go up and down depending on what he wants to do," said Thomson.
Young model Gemma Ward is a new entry to the list with an income of $3.5 million.
Other newcomers include musicians Missy Higgins, Anthony Callea and The Veronicas, directors Greg Mclean and James McTeigue, and actors Jacinda Barrett and Emilie de Ravin.
The magazine will be released nationally tomorrow.
